Eligibility of Participants |
|
|
|
• |
This competition is open to all students pursuing studies in a University (Category
A) or Institute of Technical Education, Polytechnic or Junior College (Category
B). They must be passionate about exploring innovative ideas to benefit the community
and possess the tenacity to see their plans through from conceptualization to execution.
|
|
• |
Participants must implement and execute their plans in teams of no less than 3 and
no more than 4.
|
|
• |
Participants must take ownership of, propose and implement a business plan to grant
the selected Volunteer Welfare Organization (VWO) of their choice a degree of financial
independence while staying true to the VWOs’ missions and objectives.
|
|
|
|
|
Business Plan Criteria for Mayor’s Imagine Social Entrepreneurship Challenge
(MISE) |
|
|
|
Scope |
|
|
|
• |
The challenge consists of 2 phases. Firstly, the proposal and presentation of the
teams’ original business plans. Secondly, the implementation of these plans.
|
|
• |
Projects discriminating against race, language or religion; or containing potentially
offensive messages or content will be disqualified.
|
|
• |
Each team can submit only ONE application, ONE executive summary and
ONE business plan. |
|
• |
Strictly NO revisions of the executive summaries and business plans are permitted
after submission.
|
|
• |
Teams will be funded by the Mayor’s Imagine Fund (MIF), at the discretion
of the Council, after submitting their budget proposals during the implementation
phase.
|
|
• |
On top of an MIF grant, each qualifying team in Phase 2 will be assigned a mentor
from Talentpreneur Hub. It is the responsibility of each qualifying team to maximize
the returns of their provided resources.
|
|
• |
Qualifying teams in Phase 2 are strongly encouraged to implement their business
plans within a 6-month timeframe from 17th August 2008 to 16th February 2009.
|
|
|
|
|
Organisational Affiliation for Individual Projects:
|
|
|
|
• |
Participants are to carry out their Mayor’s Imagine Social Entrepreneurship
(MISE) Challenge with a VWO within the Central Singapore District. The full list
of VWOs in the Central Singapore District is available on the Resources page of
the website.
|
|
• |
Participants are to select a VWO from the list which represents a social cause they
want to support. Participants are required to seek their counsel and approval for
the proposed project, and state their chosen VWO in the later stages of the challenge.
|
|
|
|
|
Guidelines for Participating Voluntary Welfare Organisations |
|
|
|
• |
VWOs may only participate in one Mayor’s Imagine Social Entrepreneurship
Challenge project. |
|
• |
Participating VWOs may exercise their right to reject the proposals of individual
teams on valid grounds and with sufficient notice.
|
|
• |
The selected VWOs shall provide support to the participating teams by: |
|
|
|
• |
Appointing a coordinator to guide them in matters relating to the services
and beneficiaries of the VWO;
|
|
|
• |
Participating VWOs must endorse the Financial and Development reports done by participating
teams. These reports will then be submitted to the organizers regularly throughout
the course of the project implementation.
|
|
|
|
|
Mayor’s Imagine Social Entrepreneurship Challenge Funding Mechanisms
|
|
|
|
• |
Funding will be disbursed to the selected VWOs and the qualifying teams via the
Mayor’s Imagine Fund at the discretion of the Central Singapore Community
Development Council’s board of council members.
|
|
• |
Participants must submit a project budget detailing all estimated income and expenses.
|
|
• |
The coordinator from the selected VWO must work together with the participants to:
|
|
|
|
• |
Administer the funding to the participants to meet costs incurred in the course
of their project implementation
|
|
• |
Help the participants to document any expenditure and income for the duration of
the project, so as to be accountable to the organizers for all financial matters
|
|
|
• |
Participants should ensure that expenditure incurred does not exceed the initial
grant amount and the amount raised through the programme. Any excess expenditure
will be borne by the participants.
|
|
|

|
|
|
These are the guidelines or conditions to be met by the teams who qualify for the
grant: |
|
|
|
• |
Implementation of the project must adhere as closely as possible to the proposal
submitted.
|
|
• |
Participants must adhere to the stated procedural regulations, guidelines, terms
and conditions of Mayor’s Imagine Social Entrepreneurship Challenge, as well
as those of the VWOs being served. The Organizers reserve the right to refuse any
submissions which are inconsistent with the abovementioned rules or violate the
submission guidelines.

Participants must ensure the safety of all involved during the implementation of
their project. The organizers will not be held responsible for any illegal acts,
accidents or deaths that occur during the course of this programme.
|
|
• |
Participants must submit a fortnightly Progress Report to their assigned mentors
during the implementation stage. A monthly update is to be submitted to the organizers.
|
|
• |
Participants must incorporate a block of logos and the words “A Mayor’s
Imagine Social Entrepreneurship Challenge Project, sponsored by the Central Singapore
Community Development Council” in any relevant publicity materials
such as posters, flyers and presentation materials for the event. Logos are available
on the Resources page. Publicity materials should be submitted to the Central Singapore
CDC Corporate Communications Department 7 days prior to the release of the materials.

At the end of their project, participants must submit a Final Project Report endorsed
by the VWOs they are supporting to the organizers by 23rd February 2009 latest.
|
|
The Organizers reserve the right to update the Rules and Regulations of the Challenge
at any time and will do their best to keep Participants informed of changes. However,
it is ultimately the responsibility of each and every Participant to be aware of
any updates.
